The Forsaken Saintess and her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World, Chapter 1

Previous chapter Index Next chapter

Greetings. This is my second translation, so I’m not very experienced yet. I decided to start translating “The Forsaken Saintess and her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World” (and I decided to translate from the first chapter, even though there are 10 chapters translated into English). Like my first translation, this is a work about a saint, but it happened so purely by chance; I didn’t pick a book specifically about a saint, I just enjoyed this “Forsaken Saintess”, that’s all.

Oh, and I’ve added some "enhancements" as I did in my first translation. Naturally, you can turn them off. To do so, just set the left slider at the top of the chapter to 0.

The release schedule will be three chapters per week: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday. There will be early access to 5 chapters on Patreon.

Chapter One: Thanks For Throwing Me Away!

If I were asked to tell in three lines what happened, it would be the following:

Summoned to another world with a beautiful high school girl.

Given trash skills, treated as useless.

Exiled! ← I am here right now!

L-Let me explain in detail!

On my way home from a fishing camp trip, I fell into a hole that suddenly appeared at my feet. Before I knew it, I found myself in a location that screamed “a royal palace of some medieval fantasy!” with creepy old men in black robes mumbling something about a saint summoning. Just when I was trying to figure out what was going on, a blond pretty boy knelt gracefully before the high school girl next to me and politely asked to escort her. At the same time, he shouted insults at me like “What a trash skill, a good-for-nothing!” and, as they were leaving, he casually said “Throw her somewhere suitable for someone like her!” and suddenly a light shone beneath my feet. The next thing I knew, I was standing alone in vast, empty grassland.

…Yup. I probably sound like I’m not making sense. To be honest, I have no idea what happened either. I have so many questions, but… see, I’m alone right now. There’s not a soul around.

I mean, as far as I can see there are just grassland and forest… I wonder, is it safe to be here…

What luck! This cart box that somehow transported here with me is full of fishing gear and camping equipment. I pull out a folding chair and decide to try and make sense of the situation. The ground is a bit wet, but I’ll manage!

I take out a memo book I’d bought just before all this happened and start writing down all the questions popping into my head.

What is this “saint summoning”? And what exactly are "skills"? And I ended up here because I was “thrown somewhere suitable for someone like me”? Oh yeah, didn’t that girl look back and smirk at me when they were leaving!?

“…Come to think of it, the word “skill” reminds me of TRPGs…”

I like fishing and solo camping outdoors, but I also enjoy Tactical Role-Playing Games, reading, and such indoors. Depending on the party’s stats and balance, I tended to make characters that could engage in close combat and focused on those kinds of skills. Not that I dislike rear guard or scout-type characters though.

…But yeah, a TRPG.

“It’d be fun if I could see things like a status.”

The moment I muttered that…

With a mysterious flickering sound, an LCD-like screen about 15 inches in size suddenly appears before my eyes. On the surface of the thin, greenish glowing panel, there’s something written that looks like text.

Name: Rin Takanashi

Class: ForeignerÉtranger / TravelerTripper

HP: 18/18 MP: 15/15

STR: 8 CON: 9 POW: 15 INT: 14 LUC: 75

Special Skills: [Camping Car] *Usable outdoors only

Skills: [Survival]

…No way. Status really exists here.

Hmm. Based on the numbers, it seems like my Strength and Stamina are on the lower side, although I love fishing and solo camping. My Mental Powers and Intellect are high in exchange I guess, but doesn’t this make me seem all brains?

I’m no weakling!

Wait… so, my Special Skill can only be used outdoors?

Ah, I see! That makes sense. So, it wasn’t active during the summoning because it was indoors, hence my skill got called “trash”!

I see, I see! They judged me without even checking me out properly! Serves them right!

In any case, it’s just so fantasy-esque! When I reach out my finger to touch the Status Board (temporary name) that looks just like something from an RPG, I feel a hard sensation as if I touching a smartphone or tablet.

I can touch it!!!

And then, when I casually poke a character for my skill, a new set of characters appears below.

[Skill: [Survival]

Passive.

To ensure the caster’s survival provides support on both physical and knowledge aspects to adapt to the natural and social environment.

Moreover, in the event of unexpected situations, harmonizes mental and thought processes to ensure survivability, while enhancing physical capabilities.]

…Oh, I see.

So that’s why I’m strangely calm.

Even with everything that’s happened, instead of weeping, panicking, falling into despair, or collapsing, I’m not that different from usual thanks to this Survival harmonizing my thoughts. It’s trying to somehow keep me alive… or rather, I’m trying to be alive.

Ah… I feel like crying.

Despite all this incomprehensible stuff happening to me, looks like I want to live.

I see… I want to live.

…Then I gotta survive…!

“So what’s this [Camping Car]?”

I quickly wipe away the welling tears and the moment I tap the [Camping Car] characters on the Status… There is a sudden tremor from behind as if something extremely heavy dropped down and the ground shakes.

I hesitantly turn around, and the first thing that comes into my view is the green vehicle body and the light-cream-colored container cabin. At first glance, the two-tone colored car looks like the one where a driver seat is separated from the living unit behind it, commonly known as a truck camper. However, upon closer examination, the two-tone appearance is just a paint scheme, and in reality, the body and living space are seamlessly integrated, it is a vehicle commonly known as a “campervan”!

With a bunk bed over the driver’s area, isn’t this the archetypal style of a camping car that comes to mind for anyone when they hear the word “camper”?

“Ehh! No way! Are you kidding me!? Really!? Really-really!?”

Looks like I got too excited despite Survival being active, and my vocabulary seems to have deteriorated, but hey, isn’t this unavoidable!?

I’ve looked into such a car before, but the purchase and maintenance costs were way too high, so I quietly closed the browser… it’s my unattainable dream item!! It’s a magical vehicle that allows you to go outdoors while cooping yourself indoors and enjoy both to the fullest!!!

Oh, seriously! This is a godly skill!

A grin slowly spreads across my face—my expression is surely a sight to behold. Hopping and bouncing around with childlike glee, I circle the suddenly appeared camping car.

The driver’s section and the lower third of the vehicle body are a deep dark green. The container cabin area is painted in light cream, with an elegant vine pattern as an accent on the side door, and deep red roses adorning the door handles.

Such an outstanding design!

With a click, I pull the handle, and there’s a light "whoosh" sound as the door automatically slides open… and beyond the opened door lies a world beyond my expectations.

“Mmm!?”

Right in front is a spacious living area with a large table by the window and sofa chairs. To the right are a huge fridge, a neat wide sink, and a kitchen with a three-burner stove. Further back I can see toilet and bathroom signs.

Huh. I don’t understand. Isn’t it way too spacious?

In a panic, I rush back outside and look over the vehicle’s body once more.

…Yup. No matter how you look at it, it’s a “normal” camper! I really can’t imagine how there’s that much space inside…

Upon entering again, I see a bright living room with a large window, thanks to which there is no need to turn on the lights, the clean functional-looking kitchen, and unless I’m mistaken, the spacious bath area with washing space is visible too.

It’s incomprehensible.

I quietly close the door and decide to forget what I just saw for now. This is a bit more than what my old brain can understand.

Oh! Let’s check the driver’s seat!

Collecting myself, I move over to inspect the driver’s area. It took a bit to get used to climbing up due to the high clearance but I managed to get on without much difficulty.

Wow. The increased seat height means great visibility.

The gear seems to be automatic. I have a manual transmission license, but I haven’t driven a manual car in a while, so this is really convenient!

…Speaking of the manual, I wonder if there’s like an instruction manual for this vehicle.

I open the dashboard, and… my goodness! There it is! There is what looks like an instruction manual tucked into a black file.

Let’s see… what this is…

[Thank you very much for choosing the Special Skill, Camping Car.

This skill allows the caster to summon a camping vehicle in outdoor locations wherever desired. Please note that dungeons are also classified as “outdoor” for this skill.

The vehicle utilizes the energy substance known as “magic particles” present in the atmosphere to power its movement and interior equipment. This means you can use it without worrying about running out of energy. The water from the onboard plumbing is magical water produced by the embedded magic circles within the vehicle, and you can use it directly as drinking water.

The vehicle is equipped with a barrier function, allowing only those acknowledged by the caster to board. Additionally, the vehicle has a concealment function, making its appearance unrecognizable to anyone other than the caster and passengers.

The living space is designed to provide a comfortable living environment, utilizing spatial magic to achieve both spaciousness and comfort. Please feel free to relax and enjoy your time to the fullest.]

…Wow. Amazing.

I’m getting the feeling that the more I think about it, the more I’m losing. Maybe it's best to follow that “don't think, feel!” kind of a motto?

For now, I get out of the driver’s seat and take another look at the vehicle from the outside. The body gleams without a single scratch or speck of dust. Large tires solidly support the hefty frame.

What is this special skill…? They mentioned something about summoning a saint, but isn’t this skill way more useful than some saint!?

Something slowly begins to well up in my heart, which has been simply dumbfounded. It can be joy, curiosity, motivation… or vague fear.

But getting anxious here won’t start anything!

First, I’ll trust in Survival and the curiosity bubbling up despite my age, and I’ll embark on an adventure!

I can worry later!!!

Deciding to retrieve the cart box I left on the ground, I open the rose-decorated door once again.

Fun fact from the translator

The heroine likes to personify things. For example, in her mind, she didn’t teleport with the cart box, but the cart box somehow got caught in the summoning spell and teleported with her. And she personifies everything from skills and a navigator in her car to berries and other food.
