Chapter Eleven (Mia’s POV)
“You seem to be fulfilling your duties as a saint quite well even without Philia. In fact, the escort members are saying they’re pleased with your accomplishments and your adeptness at handling chaotic situations.”
This was already the third meal with Prince Julius… He was quite elusive when it came to the information I desired, but he never hesitated to whisper unnecessary flattery till my ears wanted to fall off.
I absolutely wouldn’t tolerate any remarks that demeaned Philia. The prince should have known I adored my sister, so why did he say things that specifically provoked me about her… It was incomprehensible.
“Your Highness Julius… Did my sister really choose to go to Parnacota of her own will? Without any coercion…? I love this country and simply can’t believe someone who devoted herself to this nation would wish for such a thing…”
After finishing the meal relatively quickly, I asked Prince Julius the question.
Of course, I didn’t expect him to answer honestly, but he might let something slip.
Prince Julius gently swirled the glass, gazing at the color of the wine, and then he began to speak…
“Hmm. That again…? Your parents have probably told you as well. Your elder sister chose her own path. Frankly, I think Philia never truly devoted herself to this country. Looking back now, it’s clear she only flaunted her power and desperately tried to make herself look greater. I, too, found her arrogance somewhat bothersome. I wish she could put herself in my shoes, having to soothe the complaints of first-rate apothecaries, physicians, architects, and scholars…”
Philia flaunting her abilities…? The pharmacists were envious because Sis achieved results while also fulfilling her saintly duties, which made them fear being reprimanded for their negligence. Sis used to say that being a saint is not just about setting up barriers but also about being someone who can work to contribute to the prosperity of the country, driven by the desire for its well-being.
You were bothered…? Isn’t it your duty as a fiancé to defend her in such situations…? Why are you going along with such nonsense…?
I get it… So, that was what you really thought, wasn’t it? Even if you were trying to hide it, you couldn’t conceal it from me…
“On the other hand… You, Mia, focus solely on the duties of a saint and display your genius without unnecessary things. Everyone adores you for your beauty, and your charisma is truly remarkable. I know that… In every sense of the word, you are the greatest saint in history.”
Unforgivable… Praising me while putting down Philia…
Compared to Sis’s talent, efforts, and accomplishments, I’m utterly mediocre…!
Besides, she was hailed as the greatest saint in history not solely due to her influence within this country but also because of the invention of powerful anti-demonic spells that had an impact worldwide and other groundbreaking achievements.
That was why I couldn’t believe this country let go of Philia.
His Majesty the King had been in poor health, and the crown prince, His Highness Fernando, had a weak constitution. Recently, it seemed that the actual power to decide the country’s policies had fallen into his hands, but what was surprising was that he genuinely underestimated Philia’s achievements.
“I tried to be with her because she was praised as the greatest saint in history… But compared to you, she lacked a bit of cuteness.”
It’s hopeless… There’s no doubt this man abandoned Philia.
He was only interested in her “brand.”
To loosen his tongue, I had him drink alcohol at a high pace, and that made him say more than I expected; I felt nauseous. While my aim to make him talkative succeeded, I didn’t feel happy about it at all.

Prince Julius attempted to seduce me with vulgar lines that made me want to vomit.
Sister made the right decision to break up with such a man. This man wasn’t worthy of her…
I was concerned about how she was being treated in Parnacota… but I truly felt relieved that she didn’t marry this man.
Sis, I’m sorry… I can’t bear this person.
That’s why… I would become his fiancée. To avenge you.
I know you wouldn’t be happy with this choice, but please forgive your selfish and self-centered little sister.
Something must be lost in translation here. Those lines that start with "Sis, I'm sorry...." and end with "...To avenge you" have to be the two most stupid lines I have ever read given the context.
ReplyDeleteHmm… I don't know why they look stupid. Mia loves her sister and knows that Philia would be against her revenge on Julius, but even so she decided to revenge on him for Philia. Because of that, Mia is sorry. Maybe it would have been clearer if I'd written "That’s why… I would become his fiancée. To revenge on him for you”.
DeleteI don't get her parents, what's with the secrecy of hiding her letters from her sister, distancing and gaslighting her to isolate her from her sister. Are the parents and the prince demons in disguise?
