Part One, Section Two: “Crisis Over My Homeland”
Chapter Twenty-one
“Lady Philia, was it really alright to teach Lady Grace of the Martilas family your secret Anti-Evil Magic Circle?”
Leonardo seemed to find it hard to believe that I would be teaching the Anti-Evil Magic Circle to the Martilas family, who were the saints of the kingdom of Bolmern. Similar to the Adenauer family, they had been a lineage of saints for generations. But their power within the country seemed quite different from my family, as they had close ties with royalty.
The fourth daughter of the Martilas family, Grace, would visit the estate today. To learn the Anti-Evil Magic Circle from me…
“It’s not really a secret art. You need knowledge of ancient spells, so just not anyone can learn it.”
Indeed, the Anti-Evil Magic Circle itself didn’t require any special powers. The reason my younger sister Mia couldn’t use it was simply that she lacked knowledge of ancient language.
I happened to research ancient spells, so I learned it by chance. Looking back, I wish I had taught her an ancient language so she could use this spell.
The Martilas family seemed to have a basic understanding of ancient language as part of their education, so depending on Grace’s knowledge, she might quickly learn the ancient spell, the Grand Anti-Evil Magic Circle.
“Oh! It’s her, Lady Philia.”
In response to Lina’s voice, I turned my gaze towards the gate, where a large carriage was just about to come to a halt. That carriage was covered in multiple layers of barriers. Truly befitting of the Martilas family’s carriage… Its security measures were exceptional.
Escorted by a man dressed in a black butler’s attire, a distinctive girl with elegantly curled chestnut hair stepped out of the carriage. Most likely, this was Grace. She looked to be around the same age as Lina… maybe around 15 years old.
“Lady Philiaaa! Lady Philia Adenauer! It’s an honor to meet you! I am Grace Martilas. To think that I have the privilege of apprenticing under the admired greatest saint of all time! It feels like a dream!”
“I-is that so…”
With an innocent and lively demeanor that could be straight out of a painting, Grace introduced herself to me with an excitement that seemed to radiate from her entire being.
I’m not sure what she thinks of me, but I guess I’m absurdly overestimated, which is embarrassing.
“Please accept our apologies for surprising you. Young lady is a huge fan of yours, Lady Philia. She aspires to become a saint like you and has been diligently studying magic and honing her skills day and night.”
“Arnold, didn’t I mention that I would convey to Lady Philia myself that I am a huge fan of hers?”
“My apologies. It looked as if Lady Philia was taken aback by your vigor, Lady.”
According to Arnold, who serves as Grace’s butler, it seemed that she was a fan of mine. I had never heard that before…
The fact that a saint from another country knew about me was probably due to my research findings being compiled and published in a book. I heard that such books were circulating worldwide.
Now that I think about it, I got engaged to His Highness Julius after publishing my third book… and started being called by that weighty title, the greatest saint in history…
“Well, shall we have some tea instead of standing around? Leonardo, Lina, could you please assist with that?”
“As you wish.”
“As you wish.”
Inviting guests in was always nerve-wracking for me. Lately, with visits from Prince Reinhardt and Prince Oswald, I had been getting used to it a bit, but still…
Come to think of it, this may be the first time I’ve stayed indoors for so long since I can remember. I’m even surprised at how naturally I can ask for tea now.
Seeing Grace talk happily about her ideals as a saint reminded me of my sister Mia back home.
When I was around her age… If we had spent more time together, I could have done more things as an older sister. I wish I had cherished the moments we shared more.
Grace would be staying in this mansion with Arnold for a while. It was the first time I had felt such liveliness inside the house…
